Tuning the Color Adaptive Feature

This section describes how to tune the Color Adaptive feature to control the color adaptive control submodule of sharpness within a DC9400.

Before you begin

Make sure:
  • The details view shows the settings of the Color Adaptive feature for sharpness.

To tune this feature, you need to choose DC9400 > Sharpness > Color Adaptive in the Features view. For more details, see Tuning a DC9400 Feature.

About this task

This feature is used to tune the color adaptive control submodule of sharpness, which calculates the theta and radius of a pixel and enchances its sharpening degree only if it falls in the sector area determined by the theta and radius configurations specified in this task.
The details view of Color Adaptive includes three graphs on the left to illustrate the theta and radius configurations:
  • The top graph shows the sector area generated from the theta and radius configurations, where:
    • The origin is located at the center of the graph.
  • The middle graph shows how the hue confidence varies along with the color index, where:
    • The vertical axis indicates the hue confidence.
    • The horizontal axis indicates the color index.
  • The bottom graph shows how the saturation confidence varies along with the color index, where:
    • The vertical axis indicates the saturation confidence.
    • The horizontal axis indicates the color index.

Procedure

  1. Select a Enable Color Adaptive check box.
    By default:
    • Color adaptive control 0 enhances the sharpening of green pixels.
    • Color adaptive control 1 enhances the sharpening of red pixels.
    • Color adaptive control 2 enhances the sharpening of blue pixels.
  2. In the Sharp Ca Param table under the selected check box, use one of the following methods to edit the color adaptive control parameters:
    • Double-click and edit a single value in the table.
    • Click Edit and update the values in the prompted Edit Table dialog.

The values must be specified in the same order as those in the table and separated by a comma (,).

    • Click Export to export the values to a .csv file, edit the file, and then import the updated values from the .csv file.

The order of the values in the exported .csv file is the same as that in the table.

The columns in Sharp Ca Param are described as follows:
    • Gain: the sharpening degree.
    • Theta Center: the hue center, which determines the angle of the hue ring in the top graph and the horizontal center in the middle graph.

The value must be in range [0, 2880], which is equivalent to an angle of [0°, 360°].

    • Theta Range: the hue range, which determines the two lines in the hue ring in the top graph and the half scope of the top line in the middle graph.
    • Theta Slop: the hue slop, which determines the slope of the left and right lines in the middle graph.
    • Radius Center: the saturation center, which determines the distance of the hue ring from the origin in the first graph and the horizontal center in the bottom graph.
    • Radius Range: the saturation range, which determines the range of the hue ring in the top graph and the half scope of the top line in the bottom graph.
    • Radius Slope: the saturation slop, which determines the slope of the left and right lines in the bottom graph.

Results

  • The tuning results are printed in the Console view in real time.
  • The image displayed on the VTunerServer side is updated.
